Linda Gafford-Reichle may have retired from teaching and administration after 18 years but she will never retire from educating youth in the Sealy area.

With a master’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University, Reichle worked as a school assistant superintendent before retiring and purchasing the 35-year-old Small World Early Childhood Enrichment Center. That was eight years ago.

Small World offers a Christian environment with curriculum-based pre-school, and after-school programs that focus on the whole child. Children as young as six weeks and as old as 12 years are enrolled at the center that includes a staff of 20 and enrollment of about 110 kids.

With a purchased curriculum enhanced by the experienced staff, a lot of learning items have been put together over the years.

“We teach basics such as A, B, C’s, the 1, 2, 3’s, shapes and colors along with other important skills like reading and math readiness, self-reliance, social/emotional, work habits, listening, communication, fine and gross motor skills,” Reichle said. “Our staff truly cares about enriching children’s lives.”

Parents also have the option of having their children participate in additional classes at the center from an outside company. This includes Pre-School Music and Bible Study conducted by the Performing Fine Arts of Sealy and Pre-K Dance and conducted by the Dance Warehouse of Sealy.

In May of this year Reichle started the process of adding a small school bus to the center and have it painted with the Small World insignia. Five months later, just as school was getting ready to start, that project was complete.

“God always has a plan even if it is a difficult journey getting there,” Reichle said.

What she likes most about owning Small World is that she’s able to continue working with kids and has always dreamed of owning a center.

“We’re well established, have an excellent caring staff, and a good quality center, pre-school program and after-school program,” Reichle said.

When Reichle isn’t working, she focuses on her daughters Haylee and Paige and enjoys spending time with them and her husband Jason on Lake LBJ.

“We love water activities,” she said. “Kids grow up so fast and I want to spend as much quality time with them as possible before they leave the nest. Kids are not only my business they are my world.”
